Church Beginnings, Pt. 3 – March 9 – Daniel Choi

“9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (1 Peter 2:9-10)

Sometimes I lose sight of my identity and worth in Christ. I focus too much on my shortcomings and failures. Through today’s message I was reminded of my God-given identity.

Application: “a royal priesthood” emphasizes personal relationship with God, and a responsibility unto others to lead them to relationship with God. My small application is to spend more time in intercessory prayer each day – an hour, set apart for praying for the people I serve.

Today’s message reminds me that my identity is built by God’s grace, not by my own efforts. I have received God’s love, and thanks to His grace, I have also received mercy. I want to do what God desires for me and reject the things in my life that make Him unhappy.

As a believer, I am chosen by God and set apart for His purpose. I am not defined by my past but by His calling. Since He has brought me out of darkness into His marvelous light, I must live as His representative, proclaiming His goodness and sharing His mercy with others. My identity is in Christ, and I will embrace my role as part of His royal priesthood, living in holiness and gratitude for the mercy I have received.

“I must remember the identity that God has given me.”—Chosen, royal, holy, and His own possessions. No matter what happens, my worth and purpose come from Him. I will live with confidence, knowing that I belong to God and are called to proclaim His goodness.

Prayer: “Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt and sin on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
