Summary of Habitus by Doris Martin:

In Habitus, Doris Martin explores the different forms of capital that shape an individual’s opportunities and success in life. She expands on the sociological concept of “habitus” to include seven categories of capital: knowledge, material, social, cultural, language, physical, and symbolic. These forms of capital extend beyond financial wealth, influencing personal growth, career advancement, and social influence. Martin emphasizes that by intentionally developing these assets, individuals can better navigate their environments and achieve their goals. The book challenges readers to assess their own strengths and gaps, encouraging them to take proactive steps toward holistic self-improvement.
