Habitus

Summary of Habitus by Doris Martin:

In Habitus, Doris Martin explores the different forms of capital that shape an individual’s opportunities and success in life. She expands on the sociological concept of “habitus” to include seven categories of capital: knowledge, material, social, cultural, language, physical, and symbolic. These forms of capital extend beyond financial wealth, influencing personal growth, career advancement, and social influence. Martin emphasizes that by intentionally developing these assets, individuals can better navigate their environments and achieve their goals. The book challenges readers to assess their own strengths and gaps, encouraging them to take proactive steps toward holistic self-improvement.

      A follow up:

      1. Psychological: My worship time with God has been sweeter. Though timings may vary from day to day, I am trying my best not to dismiss it as a routine.
      2. Cultural: A little slow-paced but it is going. As for piano, I am practicing but it’s not as consistent as I would like it to be.
      3. Knowledge: I failed to start relearning Greek but that’s on my list! I have been able to apply some interesting methods to learn and teach my students so that’s a win.
      4. Economic: A little more aware of my spending but still needs a lot of work. Will start a proper file on spending money.
      5. Physical: I have been able to hop on with running and stretching so this one’s doing the best out of every other habits.
      6. 언어: I have been trying to incorporate Rengma dialect into my everyday life but other than that, I do need to branch out more with the other languages.
      7. Social: I see an improvement here. Not a 100 percent but definitely a massive improvement. I have been texting and reaching out to people more than before.
